Client Sessions

What to expect

The first step is an assessment session. All sessions are held in a comfortable private room with a reclining chair to relax in. The introductory appointment will be approximately 90 minutes long. You will meet with the trainer to discuss your goals and the areas of your life you would like to improve. An assessment is performed to gather data from different areas of the brain. Painless sensors are placed on a series of areas on the scalp while the client does simple active and passive tasks. These tasks include relaxing with the eyes closed, listening to a story being read, reading, and answering simple math questions. The goal is not an academic assessment, but to measure the brain waves during quiet and activity. This assessment information is processed by the sophisticated software program to produce an individualized plan for training.

Brainwave Optimization Sessions

Each session includes a number of protocols (7 to 20 minute mini-sessions) selected for your benefit. Sensors are painlessly placed on your scalp. You will wear headphones in which you hear sounds created by your own brainwaves that are sent back to you in real time.

For most protocols your eyes will be closed, in others they will be open. You do not have to plan. As your brain recognizes itself through the sounds, it will make the adjustments it needs. You are encouraged to relax as much as possible without falling asleep. For most it is a very pleasant experience.

Sessions are approximately two hours long and you may have multiple sessions in a day. Most often clients will book an intensive set of nine sessions in a one week period with two sessions on most days.  In some situations this may be spread out over a longer period.

For about three weeks following training sessions the neural networks will continue to change. Continuing to drink lots of water, eat well, get exercise and rest will support this process. Refraining from alcohol and recreational drugs is important.

Making these practices a part of your life, rather than a short term effort, will give you the optimum chance for the gains to be long standing. No amount of brain training can withstand abuse of your body. Eating well, exercising, drinking lots of water and moderating alcohol use are common sense and will support the time and money that you put towards brain training. A mediation practice is often easier to develop after brain training. Continuing it will further the gains.

How to prepare

Most benefit is gained if you can dedicate the week to brain training and minimize other commitments. Changing neural networks takes energy and your brain will appreciate extra rest, good nutrition and time.

In the week before your assessment and for three weeks after, it is recommended that you refrain from drinking alcohol or having any treatments that are designed to work with the neural networks of the body. This includes deep massage, cranial sacral, chiropractic, energy work, EMDR and other similar treatments. This is not a caution about these treatments but a timing issue. You are establishing new neural networks and the brain needs time for them to stabilize.

Drinking extra water in the days before and during training is important. Eating protein helps the brain have the energy to do the work that is required.

Appointments

You should arrive at your first appointment ten minutes early to complete paperwork and be ready for your session. Arriving late for any session will shorten what can be provided, reducing the benefit. Being more than twenty minutes late may cause that session to be cancelled.
